Oxford Ice Dance Club (also known as OIDC or the Senior Dance Club) is open to everyone with an interest in learning ice dance, and a basic level of skating skills (recommended Skate UK level 6 and above). Social dancing (performing set steps with a variety of partners) is promoted, as is solo ice dance. The club contributes a group number to most ice rink shows, and in the weeks leading up to a show, club sessions are given over to rehearsals for this.
This is a mixed-age club, but it provides the only specialist ice dance session open to adults at Oxford. Skate hire is available from the rink for those who need it, but we strongly recommend that skaters have their own skates.
When
Tuesdays, 19:30 to 20:30
Session format
There is an optional 30-minute class with one of Oxford School of Skating’s licensed coaches at the start of the session (choose from beginner pattern dance or a more challenging class of edges and turns to music and skating in couples), followed by general practice of ice dance, during which pattern dance music will be played. Subject to coach availability, private lessons can also be arranged.
How to join
Simply turn up shortly before the start of the session! A club member will be looking out for new people, and will explain how it works, but if they don’t find you before the start of the session, come onto the ice anyway.
Membership is the most cost-effective option for regular skaters, and costs £45.00 per month for adults and £28.00 per month for students and under 18s. Discounts are available for quarterly payment, and for members of OXIST and Oxford Junior Ice Dance Club. To take out membership, complete an application form, and hand it to one of the committee.
Guests: if you want to try out the club, or cannot commit to skating every week, you can skate as a guest as many times as you like for a pay as you go fee of £17.00 (adult) or £12.00 (students/under 18s) per session.
