Oxford Junior Ice Dance Club is open to skaters under the age of 18 who hold at least Skate UK Silver and are interested in learning ice dance. The coaching team teaches various aspects of ice dance, including pattern dance, free dance elements, and edge skills. Membership is by invitation, with coaches determining when a skater is ready to join.
Some current and former club members have gone on to compete nationally, with a few qualifying to take part in the British Championships and international events.
When
Tuesdays, 18:15 to 19:30
Session format
The session is fully taught by Oxford School of Skating’s licensed coaches, with skaters divided into small groups according to skill level. For most of the year, the focus is on the skills needed to test and compete in ice dance. However, the club contributes a group number to ice rink shows once or twice a year, and in the weeks leading up to a show, club sessions are given over to rehearsals for this.
How to join
Skaters who would like to join the club can attend up to three trial sessions, and will be assessed by the coaches during this time. If the coaches consider a skater ready to benefit from club sessions, the skater will be invited to join the club. If the skater is not yet ready, they can try again later when their skills have advanced. Trials cost £10.00 per session.
To arrange a trial, please email contact@oxist.co.uk, or speak to one of the dance coaches.
Membership costs £60.00 per month. Once a skater is accepted into the club, parents should complete a membership form and declaration supplied by club.
Guests: Experienced ice dancers who are not local to Oxford may join the session as guests, by prior agreement with the coaches and club committee. The guest fee is £15.00 per session.
