OXIST

OXIST logo - an ox wearing figure skates

OXIST provides a family-friendly session suitable for skaters of all ages and levels to practise figure skating and ice dance skills in a sociable environment.  Quieter than most public sessions, with fewer restrictions on the skills that can be practised, but less formal than a patch.

When

Sundays, 14:30 to 16:00

Session format

There is an optional 30-minute class with one of Oxford School of Skating’s licensed coaches at the start of the session, followed by general practice of basic skills, figure skating and ice dance, including a 10-minute interval of social ice dance.  For skaters working on programmes, there are opportunities to have music played, although this may be restricted on busy sessions.  Subject to coach availability, private lessons can also be arranged.

Skate hire is available from the rink for those who need it.

Hockey skates are permitted on the session, but it is not a suitable environment for training hockey skills.

How to join

Simply turn up shortly before the start of the session!  A club member will be looking out for new people, and will explain how it works, but if they don’t find you before the start of the session, come onto the ice anyway.

Membership is the most cost-effective option for regular skaters, and costs £45.00 per month for adults and £28.00 per month for students and under 18s.  Discounts are available for quarterly payment, and for members of the dance clubs.  To take out membership, complete an application form, and hand it to one of the committee.

Guests: if you want to try out the club, or cannot commit to skating every week, you can skate as a guest as many times as you like for a pay as you go fee of £17.00 (adult) or £12.00 (students/under 18s) per session.  There is also a family rate of £40.00 per session (maximum 4 people, 2 adults and 2 children or 1 adult and 3 children).
